OVERVIEW

De Paul Campus Future Planning
A New Opportunity for Montebello California

ABOUT

Since the early 1950s, the Western Province of the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers and the De Paul Center have served Montebello and the surrounding communities through their many spiritual and educational ministries. In 2018, Vincentian organizations around the world began a “13 Houses Campaign,” which was inspired by the 13 houses St. Vincent de Paul built for poor youth in France in the 1600s.

Mercy Housing California is the California based affiliate of Mercy Housing, a national non-profit committed to serving communities by providing a wide range of housing types and high-quality management services. In addition,

Mercy Housing has worked with local neighborhoods and market rate developers throughout the state to create and implement innovative, thoughtful master plans, often assisting religious communities to rethink and repurpose their underutilized home campuses.

In the spirit of the worldwide campaign, the Western Province is partnering with Mercy Housing to explore ways to reimagine their 13-acre De Paul Campus to achieve the following goals and vision:

-Improve the overall socioeconomic environment in the community

-Respond to the variety of housing needs in the community, with an emphasis on workforce housing

-Honor the Pansini family and the history of the Vincentians in Montebello

The property, located at 420 Date Street, offers an exciting opportunity to create new high-quality, homes for families, individuals, seniors, veterans, and persons with disabilities.  In keeping with the Congregation’s goals, the primary components of the De Paul Campus Master Plan will be for-sale and rental housing, market-rate and workforce homes, as well as community oriented open space.  Although planning is just beginning, it is imagined that the future campus would include a variety of housing types, open space, and other amenities, beautifully designed and well-integrated into the surrounding neighborhoods.

ABOUT

COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Mercy Housing and the Vincentians are committed to incorporating input from the local community into the master planning process which will, in turn, guide how the De Paul Campus will be repurposed. Neighbors, neighborhood associations, and local leaders are invited to participate in the creation of the master plan through written and electronic communications, surveys, and a series of meetings that will be held in person, whenever possible. In observance of health guidelines related to COVID-19, Mercy Housing may also solicit input through virtual meetings, email, regular mail, the Mercy Housing Montebello website at mercyhousingmontebello.org, and the De Paul Campus Future Planning Facebook page.
